about
Hi I’m Kate Prescott (she/her). I love all things plant related as well as that first sip of coffee in the morning and a long day at the beach. It took me time and exploration to find my way to floristry but each step has always been rooted in the belief that plants are essential to our lives.
During my time earning a B.A. in sociology from the University of Colorado, I came to realize the powerful relationship between plants and people while practicing permaculture on Navajo tribal lands. Plants are life giving, nourishing both for our physical bodies but also our minds.
Following my fascination with plants and social justice I spent 3 years on organic farms. Eventually wanting a more artistic outlet I established a garden design business where for 23 years, in collaboration with partners, I designed and maintained perennial gardens to create beautiful spaces for the people who lived in and among them.
Along the way, with easily accessible material, I began to play with floral design and found a new creative direction. I relish the intimacy of floral design- the quiet and still moments where we can observe the textured edge of a petal, the curve of a stem, the nuance of color. I find in floral design the space to be present… absorbed only in the moment. It feels healing and purposeful to work with my hands, with a natural material and to then share that ethereal moment with others.
